Everyday things tell secrets to those who know how to look and listen to them
Gianni Rodari*
The postcards that constitute the original educational documentation of this school year have the ambition of making visible the extraordinary cognitive potential contained in the experiences of which boys and girls are protagonists every day: the hidden knowledge* that gives the title to the entire collection.
"True" learning, in fact, does not derive from the transmission of knowledge alone: it mostly arises from chance encounters, unexpected discoveries, accurate observations, careful reflections and continuous relaunches between inside and outside; they are realized through new experiences and previous knowledge; acquire meaning in relationships with peers and teachers; they need thoughtful spaces and relaxed times that allow them to linger on experiences, so that they can reveal all the educational heritage of which they are custodians.
To discover the "hidden knowledge" in the photographs you have in your hands, we suggest you take your time: look at the images, ask yourself what the learnings may be hidden from the experiences you see, ask your boys and girls and then... turn over the postcards: will you find confirmation of what you have hypothesized? Will you find hidden knowledge that wasn't listed? In any case, I am sure that you will experience firsthand a great pedagogical truth: children essentially live in the here and now and everything they do finds fulfillment in itself only if there is an adult next to them who knows how to watch and listen, supporting and relaunching these "perfect moments" and allowing the necessary time so that they can be the driving force of learning, present and future.
In thanking you parents for the trust you place in the educational community of Benassi, I thank the teachers for having revealed, in these educational postcards, the hidden knowledge learned and supported in the daily experiences of the boys and girls of our school.
